Pioneer School - Delano Union School District
Pioneer Elementary School K-8 Pioneer Elementary School is a modern K–8 educational campus developed to serve the growing needs of the community through high-quality academic facilities and long-term educational infrastructure. The project consisted of the construction of 69 total classrooms, including 40 kindergarten through 6th grade classrooms and 29 classrooms dedicated to 7th and 8th grade students, creating a comprehensive learning environment designed to support students across multiple grade levels.
Bringing Community Back
Construction commenced following the project groundbreaking on December 1, 2009. The campus achieved initial commencement on October 3, 2011, with full project completion finalized on November 5, 2014. Delivered at a total project cost of $54 million, the development was successfully completed under budget while maintaining high standards of construction quality, functionality, and educational design. Grapevine was proud to work with the Inyo-Kern Building Trades Council on this project and enter into a Project Labor Agreement.
A key component of the project’s success was Grapevine’s collaboration with the California Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) to advocate for state funding allocations benefiting the Delano community, a historically underserved and neglected area that had long faced significant educational infrastructure challenges. Through strategic coordination, persistent advocacy, and engagement at the state level, Grapevine worked to ensure the project was prioritized within state allocation programs, helping secure critical funding necessary to deliver a modern educational campus for local students and families.
The campus was planned to provide a safe, efficient, and future-oriented learning environment featuring modern instructional spaces, student-centered design elements, and durable infrastructure the community of Delano can take pride in. The successful delivery of Pioneer Elementary School reflects strong project management, fiscal responsibility, and coordination among all stakeholders throughout planning, construction, and completion.
